Sometimes I love my life, sometimes I question my choices...

It's almost 1 AM on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I'm sitting in my parent's living room floor while the rest of my family snoozes away (and has been doing so for a good 2 hours now.) I just finished working for the night on some project work coming due on Monday.

I would like to complain about having to do this, but then I couldn't be thankful that I had time to trade off my kids with my parents on Wednesday. I couldn't be thankful about taking time to see Beowulf in 3D with my wife on Wednesday night. I couldn't be thankful about sleeping late Thursday morning, eating a relaxing meal with my in-laws, seeing August Rush Thursday night, cleaning my house Friday morning, and spending the rest of the weekend with my family.

Yep...I would like to complain about working late tonight or that I'll be up most of the night after I get home tomorrow. But I won't. I'm not that stupid.

Reclaiming Christmas

I heard holiday music in Wal-Mart over two weeks ago and the Salvation Army bell ringers now grace the door of every retail shop in town. At the risk of sounding Scrooge-like, I present you with this link via lifehack.org to Take your Christmas back.

New from the New Work Order

Episode 2 of the New Work Order is in the can. Larry and I were more than a bit punchy, but we managed our way through a discussion of the Top 5 Best and Worst things about being a Small Business Owner. Give it a listen and cajole your friends into doing the same. We'd like to have a reason (other than our own vanity) to keep this little side-project going.

You can catch this weeks episode here, and you can subscribe to our feed here.

I birthed a podcast.

OK, OK...we all know that it technically takes two people to make a baby. So I can't take full credit for the new podcast. My long-time hetero life mate, Larry, and cooked up a new idea for a podcast called New Work Order. We basically rant about how business is done today and give our opinions about how it should be done tomorrow. Oh...and we're very funny. We crack ourselves up all the time.

We posted our pilot episode today. Please give it a listen and post a comment. We'll make this thing whether people listen or not, but we are definitely open to some well-intentioned constructive criticism.

Bitch-slapped with the "Hey you haven't updated your blog in a while" meme

My sister-in-law correctly called me out for not having updated my blog in well over a month. She then tagged me with this meme to jumpstart my lazy ass.

Meme rules:
  1. Link to your tagger and post rules. (Check.)
  2. Share 7 facts about yourself, some random and some weird. (Check.)
  3. Tag 7 people at the end of post and list their names. (Unfortunately, I don't know 7 people who blog, so no luck here.)
  4. Let them know they were tagged by a comment on their blog. (See number 3.)

So you get no extra links to other blogs, but you will get the following 7 random and weird facts about myself:
  1. I have sprained both of my ankles at least 3 times. This is what happens when you grow really fast and play a lot of basketball as a kid.
  2. I type using the Dvorak keyboard layout. Many people think I'm slightly crazy for doing this, but it makes my wrists happy.
  3. I'm currently watching Survivor. It's Thursday, so what else do you expect?
  4. I'm cautiously optimistic and secretly stoked that George Lucas is making a Star Wars television show.
  5. My favorite musicians are women with unique lyrical voices. I loves me some Amy Winehouse.
  6. I would be quite happy eating nothing but Thai and Mediterranean cuisine.

  7. One of my favorite new shows this season is iCarly on Teen Nick.

So there you go my peeps. Seven things about Brad to make you go Hmmmmmmmm....

Crack for my entrepreneurial addiction

Anyone who's talked to me much in the last year or so knows that I love to start businesses. I have partial or total ownership of 3 active businesses right now, and a lack of discretionary funds and a need for sleep are the only things keeping me from starting up more right now. Imagine my pleasant surprise at finding startupnation.com, on online community whose tagline is "by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs." I've not had a chance to explore its depths yet, but will do so over the next couple of days and report back.
